Fade Your Jeans

When it comes to fading your jeans, the pertinent question is how fast you want it faded. If you are not prepared to let it aged gracefully with usage and repeated normal washing, bleaching it is the only way.

So, how to fade your jeans with bleach? You may do that by mixing 1 quart of bleach to a washing machine full of water. Soak the jeans for 20 – 30 minutes and remove after it as faded to desired color. Finish by rinsing the faded jeans with fabric softener. If the jeans is new pair, you should wash it twice to remove the starch before soaking in bleach.

You should take note that bleaching will weaken the fabric and limit the lifespan of your jeans.

The better way on how to fade your jeans is to wear your new pair of jeans daily and for as long as possible before washing. This will gradually rub off the indigo dye at crests, ridges and seat of your bottom, lightening these areas.

During the first wash, soak the jeans together with laundry detergent for 1 – 2 hours before washing in water temperature of between 40 – 60 degrees. Then, dry the jeans on a hanger [if you use a dryer, do not fully dry your jeans in the machine]. If you want it to fade further, dry it under direct sunlight.

If you feel you have attained the desired faded effect, prolong it by dry cleaning instead of normal washing using water. If you want to wash your jeans, do so in cold water with a mild detergent to minimize the fading. Always hang dry your jeans.

This second approach is preferred as it protects the fabric and ensure that the faded jeans develop a natural faded look. It will also give your jeans a visible unique character.
